A Reminder – Safety First
Pneumatic Porter Cable nailers are powerful and can be very dangerous tools. They save an unbelievable amount of time and energy but must be treated with respect. Many people have hurt themselves with pneumatic nail tools and every time an injury occurs it has at least partially been the result of a lack of concentration and/or using the tool incorrectly.
For example, a carpenter was working in a basement using a framing nailer to toe nail a wall stud into a top plate. The gun bounced off the stud from the recoil and hit his forehead just above the eyebrow. It knocked him off the ladder, bent his glasses, and caused him to see more stars than he ever had before. After he got up the blood started to flow down his face. Fifteen stitches later he was as good as new and carefully getting back to work. You may have seen photographs of x-rays where nails have entered heads, arms, legs, etc. In fact a fellow worker once nailed his big toe. He was in the hospital for a week after they surgically extracted the nail from his bone. Always remember, the tools are wonderful, they produce lots of work, but you must be careful at all times.
